The Chevy Chase DC community is fortunate to have a fantastic farmers market open each Saturday 9AM – 1PM at Lafayette Elementary School.  We will be posting regularly about the vendors at the market, so you can get to know their stories and support them.

Milk and Honey Farms

Known for their organically grown produce (but contrary to the name, they don’t sell milk OR honey), Milk and Honey Farms is located in Smithburg, MD, and run by Dori and John Goepel. They bought their 2.25 acre property three years ago – and started the farm from scratch!

The vast majority of their farming is done by hand, and they mange it all just the two of them, and one seasonal part-time employee.

Dori and John met the Chevy Chase DC Farmers Market manager, Haroun Hallack, at a small co-op in Washington County, MD. He encouraged them to apply to the CCDC Farmers Market and they have been here ever since.

Talking about Chevy Chase DC, they say, “We’ve been blown away by how incredibly welcoming and kind the people of Chevy Chase have been to us. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know many of them, their families, learning their likes and dislikes, and knowing we’re actively participating in their lives by growing good food for them.”

Milk and Honey Farms’ “best sellers” include their salad mix – a seasonal blend of 4-8 different lettuces, with a variety of textures and colors. It’s been known to stay fresh for up to two weeks! Other popular sellers are the super sweet cherry tomatoes and the beautiful heirloom tomatoes.

When they aren’t farming, Dori and John can be found doing other outdoor activities like hiking, backpacking, fishing, and disc golf.
