2019 is rapidly coming to a close, and Chevy Chase, D.C. is a great place to ring in the new year! Here are a five things you should know about New Year’s Eve & Day in the neighborhood, whether you are looking to hit the town, or spend the night in.
- Support Neighborhood Businesses: Plenty of neighborhood establishments have deals for New Year’s Eve;
- The Avenue: Three floors of food, drinks, and dancing from 9PM – 4AM. Premium open bar, appetizers, champagne toast at midnight, available overnight parking. $65 – $85. UPDATE: Online sales have sold out, but last minute tickets at the door may become available. Call the restaurant for more info if interested. (202-244-4567)
- I’m Eddie Cano: This year the restaurant is offering two events on NYE.
- Swing by from 3PM-6PM for the $20.20 NYE Happy Hour! There will be bottomless prosecco, meatball sliders, bruschetta, and fried suppli.
- The restaurant is still accepting reservations for their NYE Dinner on a first come first serve basis.
- Macon Bistro and Larder opens at 5PM for dinner with a special NYE tasting menu ($70/person for just food; additional $40/person for an optional wine pairing). Food options from the tasting menu will also be offered a la cart for those who prefer a smaller fare. The latest seating time for dinner is 9:30PM, then there will only be seating at the bar area. The restaurant will remain open until midnight for guests that want to celebrate the New Year!
- Little Beast has extended kitchen hours until 10:30PM.
- Be careful, not everyplace is open: If you’re of going to one of your standard spots – be sure to check ahead of time, restaurants like Little Red Fox are closing early or closed on both New Year’s Eve and Day.
- Looking to stay in, but would still like to toast the new year? Don’t worry, even if celebrating slipped your mind, Magruder’s is open until 8PM – so you’ll have plenty of time to grab that bottle of champagne or wine.
- Be mindful driving through the neighborhood: If you are the DD for the evening, or otherwise driving through the neighborhood, be extra alert. Lots of people choose to celebrate at places on Connecticut Avenue, and walk home to avoid cabs/Ubers. If they’ve had a few drinks, chances are they won’t just stick to the sidewalks – so please use caution!
- Don’t forget New Year’s Day: New Year’s Eve not your thing? There’s still plenty going on the next morning!
- Head to The Avalon to see either Uncut Gems or Little Women, playing at various times throughout the day.
- DC Health Coaches is open on New Year’s Day. Whether you want to jump right into your resolution, work off the holidays, or stick with your workout, DC Coaches boot camps start at 6:00AM & 8:45AM.
- For those who are fans of Circle Yoga, the studio is closed for construction through Friday, January 10th, but will re-open for Winter Session beginning Saturday, January 11th.
