Earlier in the year, we announced our 2019 partnership with Comfort Cases. We make a donation to Comfort Cases for each client we help buy or sell a home.

Comfort Cases is an organization that supplies children in the foster care system with their own book bag filled with personal items. Right now there are roughly 437,500 children in the U.S. foster care system. Most of these children enter the system with little more than the clothes on their backs.

What few personal items they may have are usually put in a plastic garbage bag to carry with them as they move from various housing situations in hopes of finding a forever home. Comfort cases strives to provide these kids with not only a proper bag and essentials, but a sense of dignity, and knowledge that there are people out there who care about them. Comfort Cases originally served foster children in the DMV but has expanded to all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Besides donating money, we wanted to see first hand how Comfort Cases executed their mission. We went to their headquarters in Rockville, MD for, what will certainly be, our first of many service projects. They put us to work assembling the “comfort cases” for kids ranging from infants to 17 year olds.

Each comfort case includes:

• set of pajamas
• tooth brush / tooth paste
• age appropriate hygiene kit
• book
• journal or coloring book depending on age
• pencils / crayons
• stuffed animal
• blanket
• book bag
• note of encouragement that their case was packed with care

By the end of our session, we packed 50 comfort cases, and boxed them up for shipping to children in Oregon.

Comfort Cases is truly an amazing organization, run 95% by volunteers. We look forward to helping them out again, and will be collecting various items to donate to their efforts at our upcoming open houses and events.
